the new intel i7 processor. or the intel core 2 duo extreme.

Core I7 920 - $279

Core I7 950 - $569

Core I7 Extreme 965 - $1,000 (bling)

Core I7 requires I7 board (1366 Socket, Not LGA775 Socket)

Core I7 920 works great and you can always over clock it so it’s not really worth going with any of the other processors. If you’re on a budget build then go with a Intel Core2Quad Q9550 or higher.

Cheers,

Well ultimatly the very best is the Intel core 2 extreme Qx9775, but that processor qlonee retails at around $1300, and it is way ahead of it’s time as well.

I would reccomnd the Q6600 chip because it’s extremely fast, and if you want even more power it’s very good for overclocking.

If you want a cpu solely for gaming only, I reccomend an amd phenom 2 955 processor. I’m not an expert with them but from all of the info I’ve read on them, its the best bang for your buck. The chip is cheaper, and so is all of the other hardware so you can get more for your money. If you plan on doing things like video editing or cad, then get an i7, ill be getting an i7 920 in a few months with. 2000 dollar rig. Hope this helps!

Well that would depend on what you want to spend, what other gear you already have have and what games you play?

Most games cannot take advantage of Quad cores so I would not spend on that. I7 are the best but also the most expensive by far..

If you are not looking to break the bank and like to play with this kind of stuff build a overclocking rig with a 775 socket and a decent MB from newegg that overclocks well. Serious gamer - look into crossfire or SLI MB that have multiple slots for graphic cards.

I’d go with Intel E8400 duel core 3 Ghz and overclocks easy.

Go with at least 4Gig and a better Graphic card ( ATI 4850 or better)
